In a continuing effort to provide high-quality products, Autodesk Inventor 2017 R2 addresses multiple issues. This document highlights these issues and provide instructions to install the service pack.
General
- The R2(Build 199) installs on Autodesk Inventor 2017 (Build 142) or Autodesk Inventor 2017 SP1(196).
- When appending R2 for a deployment, update the deployment image on the same bit-type computer as the computer used for the final installation from that image. For more information about Network Deployments,
see the Network Administrator's Guide.
- Keep the original installation media or network image accessible during installation and uninstallation.
- R2 includes released hotfixes for Autodesk Inventor 2017. No prerequisite installations are required.
Installation
- Update your operating system before installing Autodesk Inventor 2017 R2.
- Make sure Inventor keeps closed before installing Autodesk Inventor 2017 R2.
- If you want to operate Inventor with multi language, please pre-install standalone language pack before R2 install.
- Double-click the .exe file to update Autodesk Inventor 2017 with R2, an installer window will show the install progress while the installer updates the files on your system.
- Reboot your system after the installation of R2.
Check the Control Panel to verify the installation was successful.
Windows 7: Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Programs -> Program and Features.
Windows 8: Control Panel on the desktop Charms Bar -> Settings menu -> Programs-> Program and Features.
Windows 10: Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Settings menu -> Programs-> Program and Features.
The Programs list should display, Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017 R2, version: 199, the installation was successful.
Uninstallation
- Have the original source media available when uninstalling.
- The installation process is prolonged as it waits for the operating system’s file updates to time out. This process takes up to two hours.
- To speed up the uninstall process, after the file updates are complete:
- Access Network Connections in your system Control Panel.
- Disable the local area connection and all network adaptors, including virtual adaptors.
- After the uninstall process completes successfully, in your system Control Panel, re-enable the local area connection and all network adaptors, including virtual adaptors.
- Reboot the system after the uninstallation of R2 is complete.
Deployment
- Method 1
- Create or modify a deployment, on the Deployment Configuration Complete page, click Add Updates button to open Application Manager.
- Select Inventor 2017 R2 and add it. Please note, when installing Inventor 2017 R2 from the deployment, R2 install window will not be shown, R2 will be installed with silent mode.
Note: if you want to add Inventor 2017 SP1 and R2 together into the deployment, make sure add Inventor 2017 SP1 into deployment first, then add Inventor 2017 R2 into deployment after adding SP1
- Method 2
- Create or modify a deployment, Navigate to Configure page, unfold Include Additional software dialog.
- Add Inventor 2017 R2 and modify the name if you want. Please note: if you don’t want the R2 installation process dialog shown, please add “/S” as the command line parameter
Note: if you want to add Inventor 2017 SP1 and R2 together into the deployment, make sure add Inventor 2017 SP1 into deployment first, then add Inventor 2017 R2 into deployment after adding SP1
- Method 3
- Create a deployment, under Img folder, create sub-folder ADDONS\ADDON_INVENTOR2017_R2_0 and copy Inventor2017_R2.exe into this folder.
- Open DeployName.ini file which is located in Img folder as well. Find EXE_SEQUENCE and add “ADDON_SEQUENCE=ADDON_INVENTOR2017_R2_0” under that line; add the following text in the bottom of the file

- Save the DeployName.ini.
Known Installation Issues
- If Inventor was installed from a network location, the installation of R2 may run up to twice as slow as expected. This is due to additional security checking by Microsoft. For more information, please see Installation might require several hours to complete.
You can opt out of the additional Microsoft security checking by running the R2 installer from the Windows command line with the optional argument OPTOUT_KB2918614=YES.
- After installing R2, Autodesk Guided Tutorial Plugin will be updated from RTM version(3.30.0) to new version(4.10.0), after uninstalling R2, Guided Tutorial Plugin cannot roll back to RTM version. If you want to roll back to RTM version, please uninstall Guided Tutorial Plugin form Control Panel -> Settings menu -> Programs-> Program and Features, then install it again from original source media ...x64\LWS\AutodeskGuidedTutorialPlugin.msi.
- A Warning 1946 dialog may be seen during installation. This is a benign Microsoft warning and can be safely ignored. Simply click OK on the dialog.
- If Inventor in uninstalled directly after installing R2, then R2 will also be uninstalled; however the R2 entry on Control Panel will remain. Please double click it to fully remove it.

- Verify that you have administrator privileges on your local machine to install Autodesk Inventor 2017 R2.
- Autodesk Inventor 2017 R2 is approximately 209 MB in size. A minimum of 1.8 GB of free disk space is required on the drive where temporary files are directed.

Presentations
- 135809 Inventor unexpectedly exits when opening an IPN file, which is created in Inventor 2015 or previous version and saved without any change in Inventor 2017. Resave the original Inventor 2015 (or previous version) IPN file in Inventor 2017 SP1 or Inventor 2017 R2 to resolve the unexpected exit issue.

- 124309 Using the new API TranslatorAddIn.SaveCopyAs to convert certain BRep parts to mesh parts receive a bug alert and crashes.
- 124919 Alias and CATIA cloud mesh do not support Preview and Load Model.
