Release Notes - Autodesk Inventor 2017.4 Update Readme

General
- Inventor 2017.4 Update (Build 256) installs on Autodesk Inventor 2017 (Build 142) or Autodesk Inventor 2017 SP1(196), Autodesk Inventor 2017 R2(199) or Autodesk Inventor 2017.3 Update(233).
- When appending Inventor 2017.4 Update for a deployment, update the deployment image on the same bit-type computer as the computer used for the final installation from that image. For more information about Network Deployments,
see the Network Administrator's Guide.
- Keep the original installation media or network image accessible during installation and uninstallation.
- Inventor 2017.4 Update includes released hotfixes for Autodesk Inventor 2017. No prerequisite installations are required.
Installation
- Update your operating system before installing Autodesk Inventor 2017.4 Update.
- Make sure Inventor is closed before installing Autodesk Inventor 2017.4 Update.
- Double-click the .exe file to update Autodesk Inventor 2017 with 2017.4 Update, an installer window will show the install progress while the installer updates the files on your system.
- Reboot your system after the installation of 2017.4 Update.
Check the Control Panel to verify the installation was successful.
Windows 7: Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Programs -> Program and Features -> Installed Updates.
Windows 8: Control Panel on the desktop Charms Bar -> Settings menu -> Programs-> Program and Features -> Installed Updates.
Windows 10: Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Settings menu -> Programs-> Program and Features -> Installed Updates.
The Programs list should display, Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017.4 Update, version: 256, the installation was successful.
Uninstallation
- Have the original source media available when uninstalling.
- The installation process is prolonged as it waits for the operating system’s file updates to time out. This process takes up to two hours.
- To speed up the uninstall process, after the file updates are complete:
- Access Network Connections in your system Control Panel.
- Disable the local area connection and all network adaptors, including virtual adaptors.
- After the uninstall process completes successfully, in your system Control Panel, re-enable the local area connection and all network adaptors, including virtual adaptors.
- Reboot the system after the uninstallation of 2017.4 Update is complete.
Deployment
- Method 1
- Create or modify a deployment, on the Deployment Configuration Complete page, click Add Updates button to open Application Manager.
- Select Inventor 2017.4 Update and add it. Please note, when installing Inventor 2017.4 Update from the deployment, 2017.4 Update install window will not be shown, 2017.4 Update will be installed with silent mode.
Note: if you want to add Inventor 2017 SP1, R2 and R3 together into the deployment, make sure add Inventor 2017 SP1, R2 and R3 into deployment firstly, then add Inventor 2017.4 Update into deployment after adding SP1, R2 and R3
- Method 2
- Create or modify a deployment, Navigate to Configure page, unfold Include Additional software dialog.
- Add Inventor 2017.4 Update and modify the name if you want. Please note: if you don’t want the 2017.4 Update installation process dialog shown, please add “/S” as the command line parameter
Note: if you want to add Inventor 2017 SP1, R2 and R3 together into the deployment, make sure add Inventor 2017 SP1, R2 and R3 into deployment firstly, then add Inventor 2017.4 Update into deployment after adding SP1, R2 and R3
- Method 3
- Create a deployment, under Img folder, create sub-folder ADDONS\ADDON_INVENTOR2017_R4_0 and copy Inventor2017_R4.exe into this folder.
- Open DeployName.ini file which is located in Img folder as well. Find ADDON_SEQUENCE and add “ADDON_SEQUENCE=ADDON_INVENTOR2017_R4_0” add the following text in the bottom of the file

- Save the DeployName.ini.
Known Installation Issues
- If Inventor was installed from a network location, the installation of 2017.4 Update may run up to twice as slow as expected. This is due to additional security checking by Microsoft. For more information, please see Installation might require several hours to complete.
You can opt out of the additional Microsoft security checking by running the 2017.4 Update installer from the Windows command line with the optional argument OPTOUT_KB2918614=1
- After installing 2017.4 Update, Autodesk Guided Tutorial Plugin will be updated from RTM version(3.30.0) to new version(4.50.0), after uninstalling 2017.4 Update, Guided Tutorial Plugin cannot roll back to RTM version. If you want to roll back to RTM version, please uninstall Guided Tutorial Plugin form Control Panel -> Settings menu -> Programs-> Program and Features, then install it again from original source media ...x64\LWS\AutodeskGuidedTutorialPlugin.msi.
- A Warning 1946 dialog may be seen during installation. This is a benign Microsoft warning and can be safely ignored. Simply click OK on the dialog.
- If Inventor is uninstalled directly after installing 2017.4 Update, then 2017.4 Update will also be uninstalled; however the 2017.4 Update entry on Control Panel will remain. Please double click it to fully remove it.

- Verify that you have administrator privileges on your local machine to install Autodesk Inventor 2017.4 Update.
- Autodesk Inventor 2017.4 Update is approximately 881 MB in size. A minimum of 2.94 GB of free disk space is required on the drive where temporary files are directed.

Guided Tutorials
- Installing 2017.4 will remove 2018 tutorial files that are automatically installed with Inventor. This will cause the 2018 Learning Path not to be usable.

3D PDF
- 111132 Textures for appearance/material overrides are not exported to 3D PDF.
- 121233 Cannot export 3D PDF from tooling assembly.
- 123002 A part with multiple surface bodies creates a degraded 3D PDF.
- 124442 Export to 3D PDF fails with unexpected behavior when both Inventor 2016 and 2017 are running.
- 142405 Error occurs when exporting a part with visible 2D sketch text to 3D PDF.
- 146433 Unable to export a view representation to 3D PDF that has name with a double byte character.
