In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released Autodesk Inventor 2017. This readme highlights significant known issues and provides useful information for operating Inventor.

General

• If you are installing this Autodesk Inventor 2017 on a computer which you previously used to run an Alpha or Beta build, perform the following before starting the installation:
  • Delete or uninstall any previous versions of an Alpha or Beta build.
  • Delete any existing Spoon folders from %temp% and %localappdata%.
  • Delete all files/folders under C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2017.
  • Delete all files/folders under C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor 2017.
  • Delete the following folders in order to work with Content Center smoothly:

  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Inventor 2017\Content Center

  %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Inventor\Content Center Files\R2017\

  See the Uninstallation section below for further information.

  Verify that Autodesk Licensing Service x64 - 3.1 does not appear in the Control Panel before reinstalling

• If you are using Windows 7 on a 64-bit system, please verify that you have the Microsoft fix for user mode callback exceptions KB976038. This fix ensures that Autodesk receives the correct data from Inventor error reports. For more information, and access to this fix and related Microsoft downloads, see Autodesk Technical Solution 15492718.
• Update your operating system before you install Autodesk Inventor 2017. Reboot your system after all security updates, etc., are installed.
• Close all Autodesk applications before installation, maintenance, or uninstallation of the software.
• If you download the source files to a local folder with a name that contains non-English characters, ensure that the language in Regional Settings is consistent with the language name of the local folder.
• In network license environments, the network license server software must be upgraded to version 11.13.1.2. Ensure that the server’s log file is located in a folder with sufficient security privileges to allow the file to be written.
• Following Inventor 2017 installation, if you participated in the Alpha/Beta process:
  • Use the "Reset Ribbon" command so that the default ribbon layout changes are initially displayed. (Right click on the empty grey area to the right of the ribbon, and select Ribbon Appearance, Reset Ribbon).
  • Use the Restore All Defaults command from the Marking Menu tab on the Customize dialog. (Right click on the empty grey area to the right of the ribbon, and select Customize user Commands…). This will prevent issues with the updated Marking Menu in the Presentation environment. If you have made extensive customizations for other marking menu environments then the defaults only need to be set for each of the Presentation Sub-Environments.

Installation

• Autodesk Inventor 2017 installs .NET 4.6 to your operating system.
• To avoid potential install failure when installing .Net4.6 on Windows 8.1, ensure following Microsoft updates already exist on your machine before starting the installation.

If above KBs do not pre-exist on your machine, there will be an error 1904 when installing DWG TrueView 2017, and even if you ignore this failure and continue to complete installation, all applications cannot be used after installation.

• If the installer prevents you from installing one or more products, pause the cursor over the red "prohibited" circle beside the product name for more information.
• Make sure the Inventor install path does not contain double-byte characters when installing Inventor on a single-byte operation system.
• Installation is sometimes slow due to Microsoft security update KB2918614. If so, the installation will require 2-3 hours to complete. For more information, please refer to Microsoft support page.
• If you are using Inventor with a local language, please also ensure the language pack for Autodesk Inventor Electrical Catalog Browser is installed so that the Electrical Catalog Browser can work properly.
• A Warning 1946 dialog may be seen during installation. This is a benign Microsoft warning and can be safely ignored. Simply click OK on the dialog.
• Autodesk Inventor 2017 includes 3 new plugins:

Autodesk Desktop Connect Service

Autodesk Guided Tutorial Plugin

Inventor Connect Desktop for A360


Installation:

• Inventor 2017 will replace these add-ins with a newer version than Beta or Inventor 2016 R2, R3.
• Recommended install sequence: Inventor 2016 RTM > R2 > R3 > Inventor 2017.
• Do not install R2/R3 if you have Inventor 2017 installed to avoid above add-in work failure.

Uninstallation:

• If you want to uninstall Inventor 2017 only, and want to ensure all the functions of Inventor 2016 can work with R2, R3, just uninstall Inventor 2017 and ensure the above 3 add-ins still exist in control panel.
• If Desktop Connect Service (Evented I/O for V8 JavaScript) is running, a warning dialog will pop up when you try to uninstall any of the add-ins. To resolve this, stop the "node.exe" processes in Task Manager > Processes tab, or execute the following command:

  “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Desktop Connect\forever\Stopall.cmd”

• Autodesk Inventor 2017 includes two new options in Deployment Mode:
• Enable Design Collaboration.

  Including Desktop Connect, Guided Tutorials, Inventor Connect and Configurator 360.

  If you do not check this option during deployment, you may encounter an error when you try to use the related function in Inventor.

• Enable update and communication channels from Autodesk

  Including Communication Center, and Autodesk Exchange Apps.

  Note: You can always control updates from Autodesk using the CAD Manager Tool, available from Tools and Utilities on the Installer.

  To modify the option, Enable Design Collaboration, you must uninstall and then reinstall Autodesk Inventor through Add/Remove Program.

Uninstallation

• During uninstallation, if error 1910 displays, click OK to continue. Then delete the shortcut that remains on the desktop. This is a Microsoft issue. Additional issues can be viewed on the Microsoft tech page. There is no solution for these issues now.
• Autodesk Inventor 2017 includes a Uninstall Tool that uninstalls the following components:
  • Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017
  • Autodesk ReCap 360
  • Autodesk Inventor Content Center Libraries 2017 (Desktop Content)
  • Autodesk Inventor Electrical Catalog Browser 2017
  • Autodesk Revit Interoperability for Inventor 2017
  • Autodesk Material Library 2017
  • Autodesk Material Library Base Resolution Image Library 2017
  • Autodesk Material Library Low Resolution Image Library 2017
  • Autodesk DWG TrueView 2017 - English
  • A360 Desktop
  • Autodesk Desktop Connect Service
  • Autodesk Guided Tutorial Plugin
  • Inventor Connected Desktop for A360
  
  Installation includes the following components, but the Uninstall Tool does not uninstall them. You can uninstall them from the control panel:
  • Autodesk Desktop App
  • FARO LS 1.1.505.10(64-bit)
  • Autodesk Configurator 360 addin
  • Autodesk Design Review 2013
  • Eco Materials Adviser for Autodesk Inventor 2017 (64-bit)

• Verify that you have administrator privileges on your local machine before installing Autodesk Inventor 2017 .
• The multimedia learning solutions require Flash player 10 (or higher). Download from get.adobe.com/flashplayer.
• Adobe Reader is required to read documentation provided in PDF format. Download from get.adobe.com/reader.
• Verify that you have 18 GB of free hard disk space or more for the self-extracted package.

Before you begin...

1. Install all Windows Updates that are pending on your machine and reboot:

Windows 7 SP1 64-bit: Windows Update is in the Control Panel, which is accessible from the Start menu.

Windows 8.1 64-bit: Windows Update is in the Control Panel, on the desktop Charms Bar, Settings menu.

Windows10 64-bit: Windows Update is in the Setting menu, which is accessible from the Start menu.

Note: It may be necessary to perform Windows Update multiple times to completely update your operating system.

2. Verify that enough disk space is available on your machine to install Autodesk Inventor 2017.

To install Autodesk Inventor 2017:

For Electronic Fulfillment users only:

1. Download the appropriate Inventor 2017 installation files to a temporary location on your computer hard drive.
2. To access the installer, double-click the self-extracting executable file, which will extract to your temp folder. If this temporary location is nested too many levels deep, your operating system may display an error indicating the path to the EXE is too long.
3. We recommend that you use the default destination folder, which is "C:\Autodesk", as the self-extracting destination folder name. After the file is extracted, the Inventor install wizard launches automatically. If it does not launch, browse to the folder where all files were extracted and double-click setup.exe.
4. To set preferences, in the Install > Configure Installation dialog box, click the expandable arrow.
5. After configuration, begin the installation.
6. When the installation is done, click Finish.
7. A system reboot is sometimes required.

For DVD users only:

1. Based on the bit type of your operating system, insert the appropriate DVD.
2. The Inventor installer wizard launches automatically. If it does not launch, open the DVD disc and double-click setup.exe to start the installation.
3. After configuration, confirm all your preferences are set as required before starting the installation.
4. When the installation is done, click Finish.
5. A system reboot is sometimes required.

For more detailed instructions, please refer to the installation instructions provided with your delivered media containing Autodesk Inventor 2017.

To verify the installation was successful, start Inventor. On the Help menu, select About Autodesk Inventor. If the About box displays: Build: 142, Release: 2017, the installation was successful.

• We recommend that you use a certified graphics card, and that your graphics card driver is up to date. See the Autodesk Inventor 2016 Release cards and drivers. The certified graphics cards and drivers are also applicable to Autodesk Inventor 2017.
• For laptop computers with both an NVidia GeForce GPU and an Intel integrated GPU, change graphics from discrete GPU to Intel HD integrated graphics to ensure that Inventor 2017 works correctly.
• Inventor uses TrueType and OpenType fonts. Other fonts are not supported.
• For the document window title, Autodesk Inventor 2017 follows the setting "Hide Extension for known file types" in Windows Explorer, such as Microsoft Word or Excel.
• When working with assemblies with more than 25000 components, we recommend that you use a 64-bit machine with 20 GB or more of physical RAM.
