In a continuing effort to provide high quality
products, Autodesk has released cumulative Autodesk Vault 2017.1.2
Update (Client) and Autodesk Vault 2017.1.2 Update (Server) for
Autodesk Vault Basic 2017, Autodesk Vault Workgroup 2017, and Autodesk
Vault Professional 2017. The update fixes or addresses a variety of
issues pertaining to those releases.
This README file highlights how to download and
install the update and what has been fixed.
NOTE: Throughout this Readme document references to Vault 2017
will apply to Autodesk Vault Basic 2017, Autodesk Vault Workgroup 2017
and Autodesk Vault Professional 2017.
DOWNLOAD LOCATION
Locate the Autodesk Vault 2017.1.2 Update files by signing
into your Autodesk
Account or you can install it in the Autodesk Desktop App.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Client:
- Autodesk Vault Basic 2017.1
- Autodesk Vault Workgroup 2017.1
- Autodesk Vault Professional 2017.1
Server:
- Autodesk Vault Basic Server 2017.1
- Autodesk Vault Workgroup Server 2017.1
- Autodesk Vault Professional Server 2017.1
INSTALLATION
- All clients and servers should be upgraded at the same
time to the Autodesk Vault 2017.1.2 Update
- Depending on how your UAC is configured on Windows 7 or
later operating systems, users may need to turn off User Access Control
(UAC) to install the update
- To install the update, Administrative privileges are
required
- Thin Client 2017.1.2 Update installation (if applicable)
is part of Server update installation
- The same username which was used to install Thin Client
2017 should be used for installing the update
- Ensure the latest updates or fixes of all CAD applications
are installed before applying this update
- The update install may take longer than expected in
Windows 7. To avoid that install the following Microsoft hotfix:

CLIENT INSTALLATION
Vault 2017.1.2 Update is applicable to every Autodesk
Vault Client 2017.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2017.1.2_Update_(Client).msp' on each
workstation that has a Vault client installed.
Special Configuration Required for 'Revit Link' update
To configure this setting, manually add a property called
"ExcludeLinkedFiles" and set this property to True/False in the
ApplicationPreferences.xml file.
- Close any Revit application.
- Open ApplicationPreferences.xml file in a text editor.
(Typically found at "C:\Users(username)\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit
201x Vault Addin".)
- Add the following line under the Category
"ApplicationOptions" with the desired value (True/False).
- <Category ID="ApplicationOptions">
- <Property Name="ExcludeLinkedFiles" Value="True"
/>
- </Category>
- Relaunch the Revit application.
SERVER INSTALLATION
WARNING: Failure to follow
these instructions properly may result in unusable sites.
NOTE: Always ensure that a
successful backup has been performed before applying any updates.
SINGLE SITE
Update Installation
- Reset the web service on the Autodesk Data Management
Server (ADMS) by typing 'IISRESET' at a command prompt.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2017.1.2_Update_(Server).msp' on the
server to install the update.
- Open the ADMS Console and migrate all un-migrated databases
and libraries before proceeding.
- NOTE: It may be necessary to detach an
un-migrated database if the update addresses a migration problem.
- Close the ADMS Console application.
Database Update
- Open a command prompt and navigate to the installed
location of Connectivity.ADMSConsole.exe.
- Run ADMS b2bmigrate operation in command line mode:
- Example: Connectivity.ADMSConsole.Exe
-Ob2bmigrate -VUadministrator -VPadmin_password -DBUsql_user
-DBPsql_password
- NOTE: Replace 'admin_password' with
the appropriate administrator password for the -VP switch.
- The last two command line parameters are required only if
the 'sa' password is not the default password.
- A 'migration successful' dialog will display when the
b2bmigrate operation has completed.
- If necessary, open ADMS Console and attach any previously
detached databases.
MULTI SITE (file replication)
Update Installation – applied
to every Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS).
- Reset the web service by typing 'IISRESET' at a server
command prompt.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2017.1.2_Update_(Server).msp' on an
ADMS server to install the update.
- Repeat the preceding steps for every ADMS server.
- Open one ADMS Console and migrate all unmigrated databases
and libraries before proceeding.
NOTE: It may be necessary to detach an
un-migrated database if the update addresses a migration problem.
- Close the ADMS Console application.
Database Update – applied ONCE
from ONE Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS).
WARNING: DO NOT PROCEED until the
update has been successfully applied on ALL ADMS servers.
- Open a command prompt and navigate to the installed
location of Connectivity.ADMSConsole.exe.
- Run ADMS b2bmigrate operation in command line mode:
- Example:
Connectivity.ADMSConsole.Exe -Ob2bmigrate -VUadministrator
-VPadmin_password -DBUsql_user -DBPsql_password
- NOTE: Replace
'admin_password' with the appropriate administrator password for the
-VP switch.
- The last two command line parameters are required only
if the 'sa' password is not the default password.
- A 'migration successful' dialogue will display when the
b2bmigrate operation has completed.
- If necessary, open ADMS Console and attach any previously
detached databases.
CONNECTED WORKGROUP (file and SQL
replication)
Update Installation – applied
to every Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) in all workgroups.
- Reset the web service by typing 'IISRESET' at a server
command prompt.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2017.1.2_Update_(Server).msp' on an
ADMS server to install the update.
- Repeat the preceding steps for every ADMS server in all
workgroups.
- Open one ADMS Console on the Publisher workgroup and
migrate all un-migrated databases and libraries before proceeding.
- NOTE: It may be
necessary to detach an un-migrated database if the update addresses a
migration problem.
- Close the ADMS Console application.
Database Update – applied ONCE
from ONE Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) on the Publisher
workgroup ONLY.
WARNING: DO NOT PROCEED until
the update has been successfully applied on ALL ADMS
servers in all workgroups.
- Ensure that all workgroups are online and accessible before
proceeding. Do not proceed until the Replication Status | Merge
Information dialog shows "Waiting 60 second(s) before polling for
further changes." for each replicated vault and library.
- Open a command prompt and navigate to the installed
location of Connectivity.ADMSConsole.exe.
- Run ADMS b2bmigrate operation in command line mode:
- Example:
Connectivity.ADMSConsole.Exe -Ob2bmigrate -VUadministrator
-VPadmin_password -DBUsql_user -DBPsql_password
- NOTE: Replace
'admin_password' with the appropriate administrator password for the
-VP switch.
- The last two command line parameters are required only
if the 'sa' password is not the default password.
- A 'migration successful' dialogue will display when the
b2bmigrate operation has completed.
- NOTE: A successful
migration may take some time as the database updates must be consumed
by the subscriber workgroups.
- If necessary, open ADMS Console and attach any previously
detached databases.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- The following entry to web.config is required to enable the
below 'database deadlock occurrences' update.
- Locate web.config on the server. (Typyically found at
'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ADMS Professional 2017\Server\Web\Services'.)
- Using a text editor, navigate to the
<database> section.
- Add a line to this section with the following text.
- <deadlocks retry="3" minPause="500"
maxPause="2000"/>
SUMMARY OF ISSUES ADDRESSED
2017.1.2 Updates
- Copy Design fails with numbering scheme fails for the drawing files.
- Performing a search within the Group/User management dialog will close the search results when a user/group is selected.
- When a File Purge is executed the secondary linked files of previously released items could have been unintentionally removed.
- Batch plot of IDW puts out plot data as wrong paper size.
- A
custom extension was not properly triggering method
UpdateItemLifecycleStateEvents when performing an item / file status
change within an ECO.
- Italian language ADMS cannot map custom boolean iProperty to Item.
- Preview Handler Issue with Vault Explorer on Windows 10.
2017.1.1 Updates
- Server update to reduce the number of database deadlock
occurrences.
- Resolved a plotting issue when printing the DWF of a DWG on
a folder with special localized characters.
- Resolved an Inventor CER observed when closing an iPart
file which is checked in with 'KeepCheckedOut' option.
- When performing a Copy Design with the option 'Enforce
Unique File Names', the copy would complete even though some files are
not copied due to the naming restriction.
- When an ADMS instance with Revit Server installed is
utilizing a remote SQL instance, the Revit Indexing Service would fail
with the message, "Unable to initialize the Dynamo Helper Service. Make
sure the Revit Core Engine integration is installed."
- Workflows in Revit would result in files not being removed
from the uploads folder.
- Some User Defined Properties would fail on creation when
someone else was performing a search operation.
- Update to Copy Design where files were being copied before
an error is encountered.
