Autodesk, Inc.
In
a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has
released this cumulative Autodesk Vault 2018.2 Update for Autodesk
Vault Basic 2018,
Autodesk Vault Workgroup 2018, and Autodesk Vault Professional 2018.
The update addresses a variety of issues pertaining to these releases.
This README file highlights how to download and
install the Vault Update and what has been fixed.
NOTE:
Throughout this Readme document references to Vault 2018 will apply to
Autodesk Vault Basic 2018, Autodesk Vault Workgroup 2018 and Autodesk
Vault Professional 2018.

INSTALLATION
- Pre-Requisite: For AutoCAD Vault users, please note that Vault
2018.2 client update is supported ONLY with AutoCAD 2018.1 update.
Vault client update installation will be blocked, if AutoCAD
2018.1 update or later is not found on the client machine.
- In case of Vault Client
side by side installation of different editions for same release, all the
editions will be upgraded to 2018.2 with one installation. And there will be only
one entry of Vault 2018.2 update for all editions in Control Panel. So, if the
Vault update 2 is uninstalled, all the editions will roll back to previous
version.
- All clients and servers should be upgraded at the same
time to the Autodesk Vault 2018.2 Update
- Depending on how your UAC is configured on Windows 7 or
later operating
systems, users may need to turn off User Access Control (UAC) to
install the Update
- To install the Update, Administrative privileges
are
required
- Ensure the latest updates or fixes of all CAD applications
are installed before applying this Update.
- User
may be asked to restart the workstation on which Vault client is
installed, after installing OR unintalling the Vault 2018.2 client
update.
- When
creating deployment in silent mode or modifying it, you can add the
Vault Update EXE file into the deployment image through "Include
additional software". Please note, it needs to add the "/quiet" as the
command parameter for suppress the full UI of Vault Update installer
- The
Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Client).exe,
Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Server).exe and
Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(File_Server).exe are EXE wrappers. You
can
use <Full Path to Exe> /e <Folder to
Extract> to extract its content. For e.g.
“C:\Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Client).exe” /e “C:\Extract”. The
contents will be extracted to <Folder to
Extract>\ExtractFiles
- The Update install may take longer than expected
in
Windows 7. To avoid that install the following Microsoft fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2663352/en-us
CLIENT
INSTALLATION
WARNING: In case of Vault Client
side by side
installation of different editions for same release, please make sure
that every Addin be enabled ONLY in one of Vault client edition. If you
face issue installing the client update; please remove the Addin which
is added in more than one edition, from all the Vault
client editions.
Install Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Client).
And finally enable the
Addin in one edition as you desire.
Vault 2018.2 Update is applicable to every Autodesk Vault
Client 2018.
- Run "Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Client).exe" on the
each
workstation which has a Vault client installed.
SERVER
INSTALLATION
WARNING: Failure to follow
these instructions properly may result in unusable sites.
NOTE: Always ensure that a
successful backup has been performed before applying any updates.
SINGLE SITE
Update Installation
- Reset the web service on the Autodesk Data Management
Server (ADMS) by typing 'IISRESET' at a command prompt.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Server).exe' on the
server to install the update.
- Open the ADMS Console and migrate all un-migrated databases
and libraries before proceeding.
- NOTE: It may be necessary to detach an
un-migrated database if the update addresses a migration problem.
MULTI SITE (file replication)
Update Installation
– applied to every Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS).
- Reset the web service by typing 'IISRESET' at a server
command prompt.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Server).exe' on an
ADMS server to install the update.
- Repeat the preceding steps for every ADMS server.
- Open one ADMS Console and migrate all unmigrated databases
and libraries before proceeding.
NOTE: It may be necessary to detach an
un-migrated database if the update addresses a migration problem.
Database Update – applied ONCE
from ONE Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS).
WARNING: DO NOT PROCEED until the
update has been successfully applied on ALL ADMS servers.
CONNECTED WORKGROUP (file and SQL
replication)
Update Installation
– applied to every Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) in all
workgroups.
- Reset the web service by typing 'IISRESET' at a server
command prompt.
- Run 'Autodesk_Vault_2018.2_Update_(Server).exe' on an
ADMS server to install the update.
- Repeat the preceding steps for every ADMS server in all
workgroups.
- Open one ADMS Console on the Publisher workgroup and
migrate all un-migrated databases and libraries before proceeding.
- NOTE: It may be necessary
to detach an un-migrated database if the update addresses a migration
problem.
Database Update – applied ONCE
from ONE Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) on the Publisher
workgroup ONLY.
WARNING: DO NOT PROCEED until the
update has been successfully applied on ALL ADMS servers
in all workgroups.
- Ensure
that all workgroups are online and accessible before proceeding. Do not
proceed until the Replication Status | Merge Information dialog shows
"Waiting 60 second(s) before polling for further changes." for each
replicated vault and library.
- If necessary, open ADMS Console and attach any previously
detached databases.
CONFIGURING
SHARED VIEWS SERVICE:
- Administrator on subscription contract can
assign the 'Shared Views' service to users from the Accounts Portal,
only
entitled user can access the 'Share View' feature.
- Default value of the 'Shared View' service
available on
Accounts Portal is 'Off' for the existing as well as newly added users.
User should select the
check
box 'Assign' to start using the 'Share View' capability from Vault
Client.
- Please note, it takes few hours to
reflect the entitlement status after Administrators assign or un-assign
the shared views service to users.

KNOWN
ISSUES:
- Server
installation may
end with an Error - 'Installation ended prematurely because of an
error'.
You can resolve this error by running the installer from an
Administrator
command prompt.
- Uninstalling Vault 2018.2 client update may seek the 2018 RTM
client install media. Please note that the uninstall action needs the
original files to roll backto the previous version.
- Known Issues with 'Share View' feature:
- For 3D .dwg files, the Shared View available on the
Autodesk Viewer is
a 2D view.
- Autodesk Account 'Sign In' dropdown options
are
not updated
to reflect the correct status, after successful login from 'Share View'
command OR from 'Shared View' panel. Relaunching Vault client will
reflect the correct dropdown options.
- Install Update will clear customize Main Menu
and Toolbar settings on
the user client machine.
- Window update 'KB2533623' for Win7
needs to be installed on the system where user has configured the Job
processor and Vault client, otherwise error is seen when user
tries the update view using Job processor.
- Inventor
Application Options customized settings will take effect only when
Inventor is used for update view. Publishing using Vault client will
use default settings.

SUMMARY
OF ISSUES ADDRESSED
- Copy
Design:
- Copy
operation, results in successful copy of some files and fails for other
files where duplicate file names are found. The file name
uniquness check should be done before the Copy action starts.
- Some models would fail during the 'Gathering
Relationships' phase of the Copy Design process.
- Copy action fails when duplicate File Names are found
when, user has more related drawings of the main file.
- Copy Design fails with numbering scheme for the
drawing files.
- Update
to a licensing patch that address the crash for single subscription
user after more than 24 hours since the last successful authorization
check.
- Vault
dialogs do not appear when switching from two monitors to one.
- Under
some circumstances, the Print Change Order Summary would display
incorrect information.
- DWG
is selected in BatchPlot even a latest DWF is created to that drawing.
- Performance
enhancement for Job Processor DWF creation on IDWs with references to a
large number of assemblies.
- 'Incorrect
Version - Refresh the File' status after using 'Insert into CAD'
command from Vault Explorer.
- Some
User Defined Properties would fail on
creation when someone else was performing a search operation.
- Workflows
in Revit would result in files not being removed from the uploads
folder.
- When
an ADMS instance with Revit Server installed is utilizing a remote SQL
instance, the Revit Indexing Service would fail with the message,
"Unable to initialize the Dynamo Helper Service. Make sure the Revit
Core Engine integration is installed."
- Wrong
error message during Change State in file replication.
- Item
category name not displayed in the Item create/update dialog box.
- If Inventor Date property value is empty, 'Update
properties' updates the value from empty to an incorrect date.
- Inventor
exits incorrectly when closing a iPart file which is checked in with
'KeepCheckedOut' option.
- Batch
Plot command exits if Print Spooler service is stopped.
- Vault
Export Configuration fails when PDF creation is enabled for Vault.
- Resolved
a plotting issue when printing the DWF of a
DWG on a folder with special localized characters.
- Make
Queue Update at Preview tab sticky after Vault client is reopened.
- Property
Compliance - Overriding on item Category is not working.
- Batch
plot of IDW puts out plot data as wrong paper size.
- UpdateItemLifecycleStateEvents is not invoked when performing an item state change within an ECO.
- Rename
of Xref in Vault causes loss of layer states settings.
- Paper
size is not passed correctly when using Vault's batchplot.
- Preview
Handler Issue with Vault Explorer on Windows 10.
- Italian
language ADMS cannot map custom boolean iProperty to Item.
- Performing a search within the Group/User
management dialog will close the search results when a user/group is selected.
- Insert
into CAD not working, if file is not local to the server.
- For the central file stored in Revit server, the Revit linked file is not uploaded to Vault automatically when the parent file is uploaded.
- Decimal value for the PeriodInMinutes setting of JobProcessor is not working.
- Vault Explorer does not respond, when a file is drag&dropped in to the 'Share View' panel.
- The setting InventorUpdateRevBlockReleasePeriodInMinutes for Job processor, is not working.
- In
Vault 2018 if 'Help' is selected from the Effective Access tab in the
security details for any file/folder the client becoms unresponsive.
- Generic Error message when publishing DWF locally.
- Job Processor only updates Revison Table on last active sheet of an Inventor IDW/DWG.
- Item doesn't refresh after update if Edit Item Dialog is suppressed.
- Autodesk Autoloader Scan Page:
- Displaying currently scanning file name
- ‘File Dependency’ area is now resizable
- DGN files bug fixes
